Experience 3-5+ experience with assembly & testing of complex optical products
Education BS EE, Optical or Physics required MS EE, Optical or Physics preferred
Position Summary Optical manufacturing engineering position supporting the assembly and test of Prysm proprietary laser phosphor display (LPD) products.
- Develop and improve precision optical alignment methods for assembly of a complex scanning optical system to achieve process capability, capacity and cost objectives.
- Define and implement plans to improve yield, improve quality and reduce cost.
- Analyze failures in production for root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Qualify alternate sources and design changes.
- Qualify assembly and test equipment for capacity expansion.
- Provide Design for Manufacturability, DFM input for new products.
- Write and maintain manufacturing documentation.
- Qualification of any changes in production.
- Transfer of new products to contract manufacturer and other suppliers.
- Proven ability to make significant improvement to the cost and quality of a complex optical product.
- Hands on experience aligning and testing precision optical systems in production.
- Excellent understanding of precision optical alignment techniques and assembly methods.
- Excellent understanding of optical design, tolerance analysis and optical component specifications.
- Strong problem solving, analysis and documentation skills.
- Ability to work cross discipline and organization with complex optical systems involving lasers, optics, mechanics, electronics and automatic control.
- Ability to acquire, analyzes, summarize, and present complex data.
- Experience working in a clean room environment and knowledge of contamination control.
- Experience with manufacturing improvement tools including Design of Experimentation (DOE), Statistical Process Control, SPC and Statistical analysis.
- Experience with inspection and testing of optical components.
- Experience with selecting, dispensing, curing and qualifying adhesives in optical application.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers in Asia.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 35%.
- Machine vision, optical modeling, test development and Mandarin language skills are a plus.
- Labview, Optical CAD, Minitab, Solidworks, Matlab, SQL and JMP software are a plus.
